About The Borough
The Borough of Epsom & Ewell was created in 1936 with the marriage of these delightful Surrey towns.
Epsom is famous for its racecourse on the Downs, home of The Derby, a place where fortunes have been won and lost for over two hundred years.
In the 17th century Epsom was a thriving spa town. People came from far and wide to drink water from a local spring which was thought to have healing powers. Epsom salts were thought to cleanse the system!
Ewell Village is also steeped in history with its historic inns and old buildings. Many High Street buildings are listed and therefore difficult to access due to small entrances and steps. The pavements are narrow but there is a delightful selection of restaurants and small shops and the village boasts a fully accessible entertainment venue in Bourne Hall. Here you can visit exhibitions, peruse local records in the large library, visit the coffee shop and enjoy live entertainment on a regular basis.
The North East College of Technology (NESCOT) offers a wealth of courses and prides itself on caring for everyone's needs.
Stoneleigh has its own comprehensive shopping venue in the Broadway. Here you can access two small supermarkets, a library and shops of many varieties along a wide, level street.
